BOXES

I was at work last week, which isn't the most exciting or creative place in the world, so I was surprised when I came across this really interesting rubber stamp. It had been stamped on all the boxes on a pallet of christmas cards from China. It simply states that the boxes are strong enough to contain the christmas cards, ironically it was more attractive to my eye than most of the christmas cards themselves.  It got me thinking about that age old discussion of form v function and also that sometimes good design is discovered in the most unexpected places.

Talking of great design in unusual places, walking home the other night, me and Jonny came across an array of these amazing fruit and veg crates with all kinds of great logos, that had just been thrown away. So now i've got a nice 'playboy box,' to store some books and other bits in.

DISSERTATION

Pretty much all of my time for the last few months has been spent on my dissertation, but now its finished ! I was going through all of the test prints and scrap i'd collected whilst working on it today and in amongst it all I found this brainstorm I had done to try and organize and visualize  my written subject.

DISCOVERY

Perusing the internet recently I came across this great album cover, such a simple visual idea, that I think works really effectively. Using identical sized squares of colour which creates a striking visual texture.  It reminded me of a piece of work I did last year, called 'rkive music,'  which was a poster that used squares of colour to represent music visually. This EP is called Discovery, its the synth pop project from Rostam Batmanglij from Vampire Weekend and Wes Miles from Ra Ra Riot, its actually pretty good, check it out here.

WHAT IF

Recently we were set a brief at college based around the subject of our dissertation. I chose to write my dissertation about 'The Mod's and British Subculture.' The idea of this 'What If' brief was to experiment with the subject visually. Above is one of my outcomes, I took two pairs of battered old trainers and turned them into something a little bit more 'Mod.' Tongue and tassel...

LIVE AT LAST

So after hours wrestling with HTML I finally have the semblance of a blog. Come back every now and then to see what I've been getting up to, Ill be posting all sorts of interesting bits and bobs.
